In these applications, advantage is taken of the favorable power to weight ratio and the exothermic nature of the typical Magnesium Cuprous Chloride discharge. Considerable progress has been made in various constructions and mix formulations over the years so that batteries often times tailored to meet the particular requirements of applications ranging from -58 deg F to +140 deg F in temperature. Discharge conditions can also range from open air discharge after activation with tap water, to complete submerged discharge in sea water. Voltage rise time, following activities, can now be regulated from instantaneous to 30 minutes by correct combinations of cathode mix formulas. Excellent shelf life of the unactiviated Magnesium Cuprous Chloride battery is obtained by desiccated storage until time of use, with no loss of capacity after more than ten years of storage in sealed containers. Most Magnesium Cuprous Chloride batteries contain either high purity or an aluminum -zinc alloy of magnesium in a flat plate. The cathode can be manufactured from a wide variety of additives to increase the speed of activation, control the heat evolved and vary the conductivity of the mass. The bulk of the cathode is battery grade Cuprous Chloride powder. The separator, between the anode and the cathode of each cell absorbs and retains a definite amount of the aqueous activating liquid. Numerous methods are utilized to obtain series connections of adjacent cells. These include pressure contact, riveting, and welding. Pile construction of multiple-cell batteries are secured by tape wrapping or a plastic sealant. Cuprous Chloride batteries are capable of fulfilling many applications. In general Cuprous chloride batteries may be used for submerged applications of low power voltage applications at moderate currents of less than 50 amperes. They may also be used in high voltage applications by using the construction which will allow them to operates "in air" units". Voltages ranging from 1.5 to 1000 volts are possible. These batteries have good temperature characteristics if operated at a constant load sufficient to maintain the reaction. The normal cell voltage is 1.3 volts. Key Benefits
